Bridge Throws Errors On Deleted Articles

Nov 13, 2011 at 12:08 PM

Since there's been no update since MS said they'd handed it to the devs, and the situation has degraded, I'm hoping that maybe the Bridge can be made to compensate for the Web Service problems.  The problem is described in the thread at http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/reportabug/thread/dbe344b1-c0c2-4015-9e79-b975e06e0fe1, and in the Issue Tracker at http://communitybridge.codeplex.com/workitem/9553.

I note that there has been no response here to this; the problem was previously circumvented by downloading the affected groups individually, but now has returned; see the thread http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-us/reportabug/thread/4c1e29a9-a4f7-4c2b-aa75-4d7cab2d348a which was started because MS closed the previous thread (mentioned above) with no further reply other than "We know about it and are working on it".

It appears at this time that the problem is related to (continued) poor handling by the bridge of the 'deleted article' problem.  The v45 workaround seems not to be effective, or else it slows down the processing to the point that Agent assumes operation failure and restarts the process (which will inevitably fail once again, at the same spot, for the same reason). I actually tend toward the latter explanation, as monitoring the debug window reveals that the affected process does eventually seem to resume.

The errors that I see while monitoring the bridge debug window are as follows (group attempted is Technet.en-US.w7itproui):

[Client: 4] Received: Response: 25350 274

GetForumMessagesBriefForNNTP has thrown an excpetion (This item has been deleted), ForumId: 19bba5dc-c0fb-42ee-afbb-1e5798fe1a52, Article#: 1-37553
GetForumMessagesBriefForNNTP (fallback) has thrown an excpetion (This item has been deleted), ForumId: 19bba5dc-c0fb-42ee-afbb-1e5798fe1a52, Article#: 25356-25356

(N.B. Somehow, I never got notified of your request for log files from the bridge back in November. I apologise for this. As I do not see an option for having the bridge create a log file, only for copying messages from the debug window to the clipboard, I would ask how much you want to see, and whether it should be in a text file, or pasted into the discussion.  Alternatively, if there IS a way to create a log file, please advise how. Also, should I reopen the previous issue, or a new issue, or is this discussion sufficient?)

The bridge can nothing do to solve the problem in the web-service...

Is there any way to avoid requesting the deleted article so that the request can go on and download the other items?

I tried to reset the list of the C# forum (that is giving me this error) but the problem is still there.

Thanks
